![]() Dr. Rebecca Evangelista Dr. Evangelista has recently joined Surgical Associates, coming back to the DC area after completing a one year Minimally Invasive Surgery fellowship at the University of Virginia. Dr. Evangelista practices general abdominal and breast surgery with a special interest in surgery for weight loss and laparoscopic surgery. She has advanced training in many laparoscopic procedures including gastric bypass, hernia repair, adrenalectomy, Nissen fundoplication, colon surgery and splenectomy. During her fellowship she also gained advanced training in many aspects of program development for the care of bariatric surgery patients. Dr. Evangelista completed college and medical school in upstate New York and received her Doctor of Medicine degree from Upstate Medical University in 1997. She moved to the Washington area to complete a General Surgery Residency at The George Washington University Hospital, finishing as a Chief Resident in 2003. While in residency, Dr. Evangelista participated in a year of dedicated research at the Childrens Research Institute. She has a particular interest in surgical education and is active in medical student and surgical resident education at the George Washington University where she is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Surgery.
